risk assessment

The main location we filmed at that was in need of a risk assessment was Congleton Park. The hazards we found were as following:

  • vehicles
  • ponds/water
  • adverse weather
  • uneven surfaces/mud
The vehicle issue was a risk for all three of us. This was because due to our focus on filming, our groups concentration was not focused towards the car park where we spent some time when gathering thoughts and ideas for what we planned to film. Out of 5, (1 - least risk and 5 being the highest), this would come to level 5 due to the severity of the consequence of being ran over. This was unlikely to happen due to cars mainly being parked and also we visited during the day so drivers were able to see us. Also, cars were driving moderately slow around 5-10mph therefore it would be easy for them to stop for us. The controls we put into place were one of us at all times was keeping watch for cars and ensuring the rest of the team were aware when a car was coming.

The ponds and water could have been a risk if one of us would have fell in but luckily, all water areas were guarded off with fencing so this came to a very low risk of 1 as it was highly unlikely for this event to occur. We filmed our artist walking across the bridge over water which was also guarded off so there was no risk. The controls we put into place, just in case was to avoid any water if we could.

Adverse weather was a risk for filming for us. It came to the risk factor of 3 due to the unpredictability of the weather and if adverse weather did occur, it would set back our filming schedule. We believed as a group it could be likely that it rained therefore the controls we put into place we to make sure we checked the weather for the day as-well as bringing waterproof clothing and umbrellas.

Uneven surfaces and muds was an issue due to the weather previously as it had rained. The risk factor of this would be 2 and we voted it as unlikely for this risk to affect any of us. If the ground was uneven or muddy, the events that could occur would be slipping or tripping. This was avoided as we made sure that everywhere we filmed was safe for us. We also wore practical shoes for extra protection.
